Abortion Ban Legislation Supports States' Rights

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, January 18, 2006 - Today Right to Life of Greater Cincinnati participated in a press conference with other Ohio pro-life and pro-family leaders in support of H.B. 228, a total ban on abortion on demand.

"U.S. citizens are fed up with runaway judges who are legislating according to personal agenda rather than Constitutional rule of law," said Paula Westwood, Executive Director, Right to Life of Greater Cincinnati. "But such lone ranger tactics are not new, because this was the case with the 1973 Supreme Court decisions, Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, which legalized abortion on demand throughout all nine months of pregnancy without the vote of the people."

Columbus, OH - January 18, 2006 - Center for Bio-Ethical Reform (CBR) MIdwest will sponsor the "Let the People Decide" press conference on the Ohio Abortion Ban (HB 228) on January 18, 2006 at 1 PM at the Ohio State House in Hearing Room 116. The following is an explanation of the reasons for the initiative.

Roe v. Wade is Bad Law

The Center for Bio-Ethical Reform rejects the notion that abortion is a federal issue. The US Supreme Court was in error in ruling on abortion in 1973. A strict interpretation of the Constitution does not support a right to abortion. Justice Byron White called Roe v. Wade "an exercise of raw judicial power," and "a violation of the seperation of powers doctrine." In Roe, the justices usurped the legislative branch's authority to make law. Associate Justice Harry Blackmun wrote for the majority in Roe that the right to privacy extended to abortion was found in the "penumbras" of the Bill of Rights. Penumbra means "partial shadow." The fact is: The justices in Roe v. Wade made up the right to abortion out of thin air.
